Here I am again, posing beside my watercolour at the Vernissage or Opening night of a city-wide Art Contest at the Montréal Library in December 2021. I painted this scene - of flamingos taking a stroll at dawn in the Camargue nature preserve in Provence - from a photo I'd taken more than twenty years earlier.
This 11 x 15" painting was created during the pandemic lockdown, with a goal of eliciting feelings of calm, serenity, and warmth. The sky alone took seven successive washes of transparent pigment, to provide the sense of depth that I wanted.
